“Nature-inspired abstract art, evoking calm and the restorative power of the natural world “

Returning to Nature Through Art
For most of my life I have worked outdoors, surrounded by plants, seasons and shifting landscapes. As a garden designer, nature has always been my workplace, but more than that, it has been my constant source of inspiration.
Over time I began to realise that designing gardens and painting are not so different. Both begin with a sense of place, a feeling, a quiet observation of what is already there. Both involve layers, texture, balance and movement. And both ask the same question: how can we create something that feels natural, calm and deeply connected to the landscape?
My paintings grow from this relationship with the natural world.
Spending so much time outdoors means I notice the small things — the soft colours of distant fields, the rhythm of grasses moving in the wind, the quiet spaces between trees, and the way light shifts across a landscape throughout the day. These moments often stay with me long after I return indoors, and they gradually find their way into my work.
Rather than painting specific places, I create abstract landscapes inspired by these impressions. I want the paintings to evoke the feeling of being in nature — that sense of calm, space and quiet that we experience when we step outside and allow ourselves to slow down.
In many ways, this work is about remembering something we already know: that we are not separate from nature, but part of it.
My hope is that each painting offers a small moment of pause — a place where the viewer can breathe, reflect, and reconnect with the restorative power of the natural world.
This blog will be a place where I share more about the process behind the paintings, the inspiration I find outdoors, and the journey of building this new chapter of my creative life.
Thank you for being here, Carole
